Ultimail for OS/2 Troubleshooting guide
A. Introduction (Please Read First)
Ultimail is the e-mail software that is provided in the bonus pack of the IBM operating system OS/2 WARP. The 2 Fords Network does not support this software but has developed this guide to assist you with problems encountered while using Ultimail.
The following are problems that we have information on fixing. These are common errors and if you have any other problems please make sure that you have downloaded the latest Ultimail version. You can contact the software support or use another e-mail client or you can ask experienced users questions about the Ultimail product in the following Newsgroup: comp.os.os2.networking.tcp-ip
Simply remember the 2 Fords Network SMTP is mail.2fords.net and the POP is mail.2fords.net.
B. The Ultimail PW Fix
Problem: You receive the error message "Your Userid or Password is Incorrect" when you try to receive your mail and you were able to log on to the network without a problem. This is assuming there are no network outages (you can check your mailbox by telneting into it).
Fix: The Ultimail package stores your userid and password in the file TCPOS2.INI and it can become different from the current password. This can occur if you changed (or had someone else change your password) and it did not get updated in the TCPOS2.INI file properly. Follow this:
1.Open an OS/2 Window
2.Change directories to \tcpip\etc
3.Type attrib -h -s tcpos2.ini
4.Type ren tcpos2.ini tcpos2.bak
5.Now try dialing in and refreshing the inbasket
6.Enter the password when asked
7.Read mail
Note: If you are using Warp Connect the directories are \mptn\etc
C. Queued Messages Fix
Problem: Getting the message that there are queued messages waiting to be sent everytime you logon and they are never sent (note if you are using Warp Connect read the next section as well).
Fix: There are messages that could not be sent and were queued in your PC directories. These messages may be in an unreadable format that Ultimail can not read or the destination address is invalid or not recognized. To clear the directory simply erase all the files located in the MQUEUE sub-directory. It is usually found within X:\tcpip\etc\mqueue. Follow the below procedure:
1.Open an OS/2 Window
2.Change directories to \tcpip\etc\mqueue
3.Type erase *.*
4.Answer "Y" to the question Are you sure (Y/N)?
5.You should no longer receive this error.
Note: If you are using Warp Connect the directories are \mptn\etc\mqueue
D. Information on the Warp Connect Send Mail Problem
Problem: There is a known problem with the SENDMAIL portion of Ultimail that comes with OS/2 Warp Connect (THIS IS ONLY FOR OS/2 WARP CONNECT USERS.) Symptoms include never able to send mail and always getting the message about queued messages waiting to be sent.
Fix: You need to download a fix pack file called ic10390.zip. Call IBM directly if you cannot find this file.
E. Downloading Alternative Email SW like PMMail
Some OS/2 shareware email clients include PMMail, Post Road Mailer, etc. Software can be downloaded on the Web i.e.
If your email application is failing to download your mail then either:
1.The email software is not configured properly.
2.Something is wrong with the email software itself.
3.One of the email items is causing the SW to end during the download and you may want to delete that mail item or try downloading it with another email client.
