These instructions explain how to configure
Windows XP Networking so that you can access the 2 Fords Network
modem
pool.

56k v.90 Illustrated Version
If you have already set up your home computer to dial into 2 Fords Network then proceed to Step 6 to connect to our 56k modems.
1. Introduction
In order to use many of the services available here at 2 Fords Network, such as Netscape, you have to set up your computer to access via a dial-up phone line. This document will walk you through the steps required to get your computer successfully connected. These instructions assume that you only want to access the Internet via 2 Fords Network, (not through another Internet provider such as CompuServe or America Online), and that you are not connected to some other type of local area network (LAN). In other words, you use a stand-alone machine at home. While you can set up your computer to access multiple types of network providers, this set of instructions will only address dialup connectivity to 2 Fords Network.
2. Hardware Requirements
Here at 2 Fords Network we have 56K
- V.90 modems. We can also support slower modems down to 14.4K.
Generally speaking modems slower than 9600baud aren't
sufficient for graphical type applications like Netscape.
3. Software Requirements
Windows XP comes with all the networking
software you need to get access to 2 Fords Network. It comes with
a Telnet and FTP
client (Internet Explorer), both located in the windows directory.
Once you have established a connection to 2 Fords, you
can then easily transfer (FTP) applications such as Netscape
to your machine.
4. Configuring Dialup Networking
Windows XP comes with the Dialup Networking
service enabled. We have not found a way to turn it off so there
is no need for instructions on
how to enable it.
5. Configuring Your Modem
This section is to verify that your
computer has a modem correctly installed. Due to countless types
of modems and that
Windows XP is a new operating system we cannot provide instructions
on how to install a modem or provide drivers for it. You
will need to contact your computers manufacturer (i.e. Dell,
Compaq) or the manufacturer of the modem.

5.a Click on START and then Control Options.

5.b Double click on Phone and Modem Options.

5.c Click on the Modem tab.
Should no modem be listed then your
computer does not have a modem properly installed. Please contact
your computers and or modem manufacturer for support.

of Netscape from http://home.netscape.com
