These instructions explain how to configure Windows 2000 Networking so that you can access the 2 Fords Network modem pool.

56k v.90 Illustrated Version

If you have already set up your home computer to dial into 2 Fords Network then proceed to
Step 6 to connect to our 56k modems.

1. Introduction

In order to use many of the services available on t the Internet, such as Netscape, you have to set up your computer to access the campus via a dial-up phone line. This document will walk you through the steps required to get your computer successfully connected to the campus. These instructions assume that you only want to access the Internet via 2 Fords, (not through another Internet provider such a CompuServe or America Online), and that you are not connected to some other type of local area network (LAN). In other words, you use a stand-alone machine at home. While you can set up your computer to access multiple types of network providers, we will only address dialup connectivity to 2 Fords Network

2. Hardware Requirements

Here at 2 Fords Network we have 56K - V.90 modems; we can also support slower 14.4K modems. Generally speaking modems slower than 9600baud aren't sufficient for graphical type applications like Netscape.

3. Software Requirements

Windows 2000 comes with all the networking software you need to get access to the 2 Fords Network. It comes with a Telnet and FTP client, both located in the windows directory. Once you have established a connection to the campus, you can then easily transfer (FTP) applications such as Netscape to your machine.
